About Tao's Culture

Tao's Culture was founded in 1996 as a non-profit organization in Washington D.C.  We conduct and co-host numerous programs to enhance the understanding of Chinese Tao philosophy. With regular lectures, seminars, exhibitions, book publishing, periodicals and other influential publications, it provides explanations on distinct views in an effort to propagate Chinese Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism and apply the dialogue as well as comparison with western philosophy. Also, declare the idea of the harmony between heaven, earth and human. This program centered on the betterment of life and spiritual development, help people find the truth through explorations and practices of different thoughts. Tao's Culture is eager to popularize into multidirectional globally development.

The Tao's Culture is funded by variety of donors, including Helianthus Cultural Foundation, Evergreen Marine Corp (Taiwan) Ltd. and individuals in the United State and East Asia.

History

--An embryonic form of Tao's Culture, Helianthus Cultural Foundation in Taiwan was formed in 1990 by President Henry Chang and groups of sponsors with enthusiasm and cherishment for the arts and culture.

--Several large lectures discussing multicultural exchange and philosophy were held with mutual beneficial interaction between lecturers and specialists through a face-to-face exchange as organization grew during the period of 1990 to 1995 in Taiwan. So-Go Department Store art and culture book exhibition in 1990, hold New Century life style lecture series in 1990 and 1993, imposing posters ''Health Concern, Life respect and environment Protection'' in 1993

--Seminars and classes related to health and food were also co-hosted with other organizations, scholarly association and local communities, such as ''Safe Vegetable and Popularization of Organic Farming'', philosophy forums reached 47 with more than 2000 participants in 1994. Held the first national community fair, including 102 communities and 40 associations in May 1994.

--Published the ''Global Vegetarian Guide'' 1995 edition 50,000 volumes.

--Invited well known TV star to join the ''Earth and Healthy Diet, advertising program round all over the Taiwan main TV station during 1995.

--United all concerning groups to further promote public interest programs in regard to the concept of overall environmental protections including human body protection, spiritual protection, natural resource protection and ecological protection in 1995.

--Participated over 30 different broadcast program and lecture, gained widespread response from audience during 1995.Organized various weekly conferences in Atlanta, California and New York in 1996.

--With support from Helianthus Cultural Foundation, Tao's culture was established in March 1997 in Washington D.C. initiated by president Chang; a branch office was set up in New York in January 1997.

--Several seminars, exhibitions and vegetarian recipe and nutrition study exchange were held in Soho Open Center, Dragon Cultural Center in New York City in 1997 and 1998.

--Established I-kuan lecture center in Bayside New York, and held numerous programs, and published I-kuan newsletter monthly in 1998

--Participated ''time migration'' exhibition and ''future time'' symposium at Chinese Information and Culture Center in 1999.

--I-kuan Lecture hall move to little Neck, but continued its lecture programs in 1999.

--Participated ''square and circle'' exhibition and symposium in 2001 at Taipei Gallery and Theatre of CICC.

--Published ''Heart Sutra'' in English version in the USA in 2001.

--Held Tao-the Ching and I-ching lectures in Helianthus restaurant in 2001.

--Started I-Ching lecture in Chinese Cultural Center in Flushing. In February 2002.

--Held I-Ching lectures in China Institute in March 2002, New York Manhattan Upper East Side.

--Begin in July 2002; hold Tao-Teh Ching lecture series in flushing ku-Shian restaurant.

--Education Programs

Focus on seminars, lectures, workshops, film reviews, and presentations, to reinterpret Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism, Chinese I-Ching philosophies.

--Research projects

Sponsor research in Chinese Taoism art and regional case studies, research presentation of various Asian civilizations to further understand human spiritual and supernatural learning.

--Translations and Publications

Publish Asian philosophies and related theories of Tao. Translate and publish Asian civilization related articles and books.

Health and Vegetarian Education

--Introduce Chinese medicine and healthy eating habits; through publish Chinese monthly magazine "GREATLIGHT", and English quarterly magazine - "Dragonfly", teaching recipe, seminars, websites and broadcasts to provide intormation on environmental protection of nature.

Art Projects

--Organize and sponsor programs in dialogue between modernism and traditional culture heritage, crossing academic fields. And breaking categories present in the inter and intra transformation from the different specialties, and support the participation of international art festivals, seminar by individual artists, scholars, and specialists.

Now in Development

1. Translate and publish Tao and other treasures of Chinese philosophy in articles and books.

2. Construction of official website involving related information in a different language. Encourage the development of new concept and new media art works.

3. Affiliate collaboration - enhance the collaboration between affiliates in Japan, PCR and Hong Kong, Canada as co-hosts for traveling programs and in advance to form a global art connection.

Directors

Henry H. Chang

Over 30 years devotes in Chinese culture and philosophy research. By using modern perspectives to reinterpret Chinese sage and ideas, he promotes Asian culture evolution and human spiritual supernatural learning as well as vegetarian eating theories. While traveling around Japan, PRC, Hong Kong, Canada and USA for lecturing seminars and conferences, he contributed in publishing < Unicorn magazines and newsletters>, which includes film and book reviews, <Vegetarianism>, Heart interpreted, Diamond interpreted, and over hundreds of other articles covering issue of Chinese aesthetic and culture.

Alice C. Chang

Studied in editorial and graphic design in Japan and USA. She has been a graphic designer for over hundreds of books and periodicals, as well as organizing and supervising many of Asian Culture and Art programs of Tao's Culture in Asia and USA. She has traveled around to inspect affiliates in other countries.

Miranda Cheng

With received the communication bachelor degree from Chinese University in Taiwan Besides being a publisher of the Solar Publication in 1987 and special assistant of President in International Lions Club, she organized 1990 Sunflower Arts and Culture Book Fair in So Go Department Store. Her Specialties in Photography, travel, animal rights and health food styles were well known. She also researched and published "Zen Master I-Gue" in Japan from 1992-1993 in position of publisher for Unicorn Magazine. By organizing the charitable advertisements with several friends to promote the healthy vegetarian food and Global environment protect on TV, her contributions are truly significant.

Amy H. Chen

Graduated from Russian Literature in Chen Chi University 1967. She was the editor of the Oriental Publish Company and editor-in-Chief of solar magazine. Over published Hundreds of articles and books, her works covered in topics of Chinese philosophy, legends of Chinese sage and Taoism, such as <We>, <Twin>, <Reincarnation>, <Chinese>. Her achievements in translation also can be seemed in <Selecting Russian Lyric> and <Biography>. She also contributes film reviews in unicorn magazine.

James Tu

James Tu assisted founding the New York branch of Tao’s Culture in September 1998. He is also the editor-in-chief of Tao's Culture Monthly, a monthly publication that update and brief Tao's Culture activities to Tao's Culture members around the world. Tu received his Master of Business Administration degree from Baruch College in New York with honors, and his Bachelor of Science from Tsing-Hua University in Taiwan. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) awarded by Association of Investment Management and Research, and a member of New York Society of Security Analyst.
